My friend pays a lot less for auto insurance. Why would that be?
You need to make sure you are comparing “apples to apples” when it comes to looking at auto insurance premiums. Your friend might have different coverages than you or different limits of insurance. The type of vehicle that you own makes a big difference in your insurance premium so if your friends drives a different vehicle that can effect comparisons. Driving record, marital status, sex, whether you own a home or not are just a few other things that could cause a difference in your premium compared to your friends. All of these things need to be taken into account when contrasting auto insurance premiums.

Why should I have insurance with an Independent Agent vs. a “captive” agent who represents companies like State Farm, Allstate or Nationwide?
Captive Agents are employees of their respective company and are limited by the products that their company chooses to offer. Independent Agencies, like Fey Insurance Services, are not limited to one company and therefore we can “tailor fit” the best programs we have available from our A.M. Best Rated A+ or better companies to fill your special needs for the best coverage and price.

What should I do if I am in an auto accident?
1.Make sure you and your passengers are safe. Try to move as far as possible off the roadway but be sure not to leave the scene of the accident. Give oncoming traffic warning by activating your hazard lights or setting flares.
2.Call the police and report the accident.
3.Be sure not to admit fault for the accident or discuss it with anyone besides the police officer or the claim representative who works for your insurance company.
4.Exchange vital information with the other driver(s) involved in the accident. Write down their name, address, phone number, license number, as well as their insurance information (policy number and insurance company). You will also want to get contact information of witnesses if there were any.
5.Contact your insurance agent or call the 24/7 toll-free claims reporting phone number that is found on your Insurance Auto ID Card as soon as you can and give them all the information you were able to gather so that the insurance company can be informed right away.

Do I really need an umbrella policy?
Most insurance carriers don't offer limits of liability on a homeowner or auto policies higher than $500,000. With today's high litigations paying out sometime in the millions for things such as auto accidents, slip and falls and other personal injuries, $500,000 just isn't enough. This is where an umbrella policy becomes important. An umbrella policy goes over top of your home and auto liability in limits of $1 million. If you have an auto accident and are forced to pay out $750,000, your $500,000 limit on your auto policy is going to leave you paying $250,000 out of your own pocket. If you had a $1 million umbrella policy over both your home and auto policies that extra $250,000 would be paid by your umbrella. This would protect you and your family's assets and, for that reason, an umbrella policy is looked at as asset protection coverage.
